The JBA Bentley project team behind the Outstrays to Skeffling Managed Realignment and Meadowgate: Don Regulators schemes have both been highly commended at the annual Flood and Coast Awards.

The project's success was recognised at a ceremony in Liverpool during Flood and Coast 2026, where JBA Bentley colleagues were also exhibiting across the three-day event, showcasing the company's integrated design-and-build capabilities.

Recognised in the 'Working with Nature' category, the Outstrays to Skeffling Managed Realignment scheme has created a new 250-hectare area of intertidal habitat. The integrated design-and-build project included the construction of a new 5.5km flood embankment on the Humber Estuary, delivered in collaboration with the Environment Agency and Associated British Ports.

Meanwhile, Meadowgate: Don Regulators, highly commended in the 'Innovation in Climate Resilience' category, is a major asset replacement scheme on the River Rother in South Yorkshire. The project has delivered a climate-resilient solution through the installation of a new vertical guillotine-style gate, improving hydraulic control and eliminating single points of failure, while reusing as much of the existing infrastructure as possible.

An innovative modular fish pass has reconnected 4.6km of fragmented river, enhancing biodiversity and enabling fish species to move freely through the watercourse. The scheme has utilised the UK's largest temporary siphon to divert the River Rother around the works, allowing the construction of the fish pass to be carried out in the dry without pollution risk.

Together, these projects demonstrate JBA Bentley's commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions that support flood resilience and environmental improvement. Their innovative and collaborative approach has also been recognised more widely, with awards and commendations across the Flood and Coast Awards, Green Apple Awards, British Construction and Infrastructure Awards, Constructing Excellence Awards and more.
